James J. McKinney

James J. McKinney is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Kemper Corporation. In this role, Jim leads all aspects of Kemper’s financial operations including accounting, treasury, tax, financial planning and analysis, investor relations, internal audit, and M&A.

Since joining Kemper in November 2016, Jim has rebuilt and restructured the finance function, with upgrades in every essential area to ensure the business is supported and well-positioned for future growth. He has led Kemper’s transformation, doubling Kemper’s asset size over five years through organic growth and two acquisitions. In 2020, Kemper’s financial performance was recognized on the Fortune 100 Fastest Growing Companies list.

Prior to joining Kemper, Jim served as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer for Banc of California. He has held senior executive positions with International Lease Finance Corporation, a unit of AerCap Holdings N.V., where he served as Vice President, Controller and also as Vice President, Principal Accounting Officer and Global Corporate Controller.

Jim has held several senior financial positions with RBS Citizens Asset Finance, including Vice President, Head of Balance Sheet Management, Operations & Strategy.

Jim earned bachelor’s degrees in computer science and economics from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, and a master’s degree in accounting from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
