Mary Martin
Aunt Martha’s Health & Wellness
Mary Martin is Chief Financial Officer of Aunt Martha’s Health and Wellness, where she provides executive leadership for the organization’s financial strategy, accounting operations, budgeting, audit activity, internal controls, cash management, forecasting, and financial reporting. She joined Aunt Martha’s in 2006 and has served as CFO since April 2014. During her tenure with the organization, she has also served as Chief Compliance Officer and Controller.
Ms. Martin has more than 20 years of financial management experience across nonprofit healthcare, government, and public accounting. Before joining Aunt Martha’s, she served as Public Service Administrator at the Illinois Veterans Home at Manteno, where she was responsible for financial strategy, planning, management, and accounting. Earlier in her career, she worked in public accounting, leading audit consulting engagements and providing financial advisory services to for-profit companies, governmental entities, and not-for-profit organizations.
As CFO, Ms. Martin has played a central role in strengthening Aunt Martha’s financial position while supporting the organization’s growth and mission. Since the period when she joined the organization, Aunt Martha’s has grown from an approximately $30 million organization with approximately $2 million in net assets and effectively no days cash on hand to an approximately $75 million organization with approximately $50 million in net assets, roughly two-thirds of which are liquid. Over that same period, the organization reduced long-term debt from approximately $18 million to approximately $3 million.
Ms. Martin oversees the management and coordination of fiscal reporting activities across the organization, including financial statements, funder and agency reporting, contract and grant budgets, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, regulatory requirements, and applicable audit standards. She maintains internal controls and safeguards, coordinates audit activity, manages cash flow and forecasting, supports banking relationships, and develops financial tools and reporting mechanisms that provide critical financial and operational information to the President and CEO, executive leadership, and the Board.
Her leadership supports Aunt Martha’s ability to deliver high-quality, cost-effective care in a complex safety-net healthcare environment. The organization has been recognized as a national quality leader for nine consecutive years, while maintaining a cost of care that has consistently been 20% to 40% lower than state and national averages for health centers over the past decade. Ms. Martin’s financial stewardship has helped position Aunt Martha’s to sustain its mission, manage risk, and make strategic investments in care, workforce, infrastructure, and community need.
Ms. Martin is a Certified Public Accountant. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Governors State University and a Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Corporate Compliance from George Washington University.
